Objectives
- To advance the best interests of the dog and dog fancier in all matters;
- To strive for better care and control of all dogs;
- To encourage and support dog shows and obedience trials under the rules of the American Kennel Club;
- To emphasize the value of pure breeding;
- To create an appreciation on the part of the public of the value of purebred dogs;
- And to foster and maintain among our members cooperation, friendship and good sportsmanship.
Code of Ethics
The Berrien Kennel Club, in order to protect, preserve and promote the advancement of purebred dogs, hereby sets forth this Code of Ethics.
- Members shall abide by the Club’s Constitution and By-Laws and all the American Kennel Club’s Rules and Regulations.
- Members shall maintain the best possible standards of health and care of their dogs.
- Members shall keep in mind that the good of the breed takes precedence over any or all personal benefits.
- Members shall not knowingly sell any dogs to pet shops, wholesale dealers or retail establishments for any purposes.
- Members shall not knowingly breed unhealthy, unsound or unregistered dogs.
- Advertising should be of an honest and forthright nature. Members shall assist the novice in understanding the breed and the breed’s standards.
- Members shall not release any puppy prior to seven (7) weeks of age. All proper health and registration papers (full or limited) shall be made available to the buyer.
- Members have an obligation to protect the interest of purebred dogs by conducting themselves in a manner designed to reflect credit upon themselves, their breed and the Berrien Kennel Club.
